The two lead performances in "Red is the Color Of" are extraordinary in Ariztical Entertainment's new release. It is the story of a tense marriage between two artists; things get even worse when one of the husband's nude paintings causes his wife to have a sexual and spiritual awakening. We witness a three-way game of seduction in which each of the three people involved is forced to face desires that are unfulfilled and frustrations that are festering. Each of the three stands before destruction.
Mary Shaw (Irina Bjorklund) is a celebrity in the art world because of her very special blood drawings. Her husband, David Stellar (Peter Franzen), on the other hand, does not have much luck and there is not even one gallery willing to show his nude paintings; they simply are not what is happening. David refuses to change his style and this might be because of the beautiful and seductive blue-eyed blonde, Julie (Eliza Pryor Nagel), whose nude he is painting.
Mary is quite naturally curious and mystified by the new woman who has come into the life of her husband so she cultivates a friendship with her. Mary finds Julie's free spirit and complete honesty fascinating and realizes that there is a depth to their relationship that is missing in her marriage to David. She is drawn to Julie both spiritually and sexually and she finds what she does not have at home and Mary begins to rethink the way she has been living, However David struggles to keep the marriage intact and he forces himself to ignore the temptation he also feels from Julie. Julie who seems to be so strong falls apart and as she does she creates devastation for all three of them, Emotional chaos follows and Mary begins to realize that she is losing everything that was once important to her but she manages to escape the destruction and learns what being free really means. It's a powerful film that has something to say to all of us.
