The best way to see (and hear!) this concert
The Music Man | United States | 11/03/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Rejoice and Be Merry!" is the 2007 Christmas concert recorded last year in Salt Lake City by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and special guests, The King's Singers. Recorded in high-definition video and 5.1 Surround Sound, this DVD is a smorgasborg for both the eyes and ears. These massive concerts, given as a free gift to the community each year, and broadcast by PBS, are both joyful and reverential. This DVD offers the full experience of the concert, with a 'you-are-there' viewpoint and behind the scenes interviews that can be viewed again and again. The choir is joined by the 120-member Orchestra at Temple Square, as well as The Bells at Temple Square, plus a score of dancers who perform an opening processional, and take part in the charming, complete presentation of "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" which has to be seen to be believed.

I mentioned that PBS broadcasts this concert each year, but to be clear, it's been edited down to an hour-long broadcast for TV - this DVD offers another half and hour of music, as well as bonus interviews with The King's Singers and the creators of the concert. A perfect Christmas gift for your family, which can be enjoyed year after year."
This is truly the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at its best

"I already knew I would enjoy the choir combined with the Temple Square orchestra, but the overwhelming beauty of these arrangements surpassed all of my expectations. On top of that, it would be an enormous understatement to say that the King Singers were icing on the cake. What a pleasant surprise! While I had not heard them before, my whole family was completely moved to tears by these marvelous vocalists, their harmonious treatment of our holiday favorites, and the warm personality they added to what was already a delightful show. I have other Christmas CD's by this world-class choir and orchestra, but far and away "Rejoice and Be Merry" is my favorite yet. But get the DVD; you must see the faith and sincerity in the faces of the choir members as they sing such moving hymns as "The First Noel". And the lively, colorful and humorous rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas" by the young dance group is uplifting and heartwarming, and will forever linger on as a seasonal favorite in my family. We watched this DVD a dozen times during the Christmas season, and I even ordered a second one a few weeks later as a gift for my 86 year old dad, who was so bowled over by the King Singers, especially, that he expressed an interest in acquiring a copy for himself."
A match made in music heaven

"The King's Singers and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are a match made in musical heaven. The Singers have performed one or two Christmas concerts with the MTC in the past, but this is the first performance that is avaialable on CD and DVD. This actually has a version of the Twelve Days of Christmas (easily one of the worst and most boring Christmas songs ever done--Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime is the absolute worst) that I enjoyed. It was the dancers t hat did it. The crispness of the Singers matched with the fullness of the MTC provide perfect counterpoint to each other, particularly in Oh Holy Night. Everytime I listen to the CD or watch the DVD the chills that hit me are brand-new. Guess you can tell I liked it."
A treat Every Year

"I wait every year for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's latest Christmas Concert. I have them all on DVD. This year's presentation was no exception to their continued excellence. The King's Singers offer a British touch to the Yuletide festivities. The dancers are always wonderful; the choir and orchestra perfection. It has become a Christmas tradition to watch all these concerts one-by-one, day-by day before the holiday."
