Sister Hazel's "A Life In The Day" DVD snapshot
Tod Elmore | Atlanta GA | 12/29/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A Life In The Day is an unmatched view of everything Sister Hazel. The DVD includes a feature-length documentary that brings you into every nook and cranny of their lives as they travel the country making music and mischief. Featuring behind-the-scenes footage of sold out shows from Tampa to Chicago, as well as a ticket to the band's floating music party, The Rock Boat. All of the good vibes and good humor that make them one of America's top live bands are in evidence here as they take you into their dressing room, tour bus, hotel room and share their thoughts on music and life. After the documentary, sit back and enjoy a Sister Hazel concert like no other. Shot at Orlando's House Of Blues, the concert feature brings all of the warmth and energy of a real Hazel gig to your living room."
This a great DVD... with a couple of flaws

"My girlfriend is a huge Sister Hazel fan, so I bought her this DVD for Valentine's Day. It is a great concert with great sound. We saw them live in Gainesville, FL the night after the concert shown in the video, and it is basically the same set. (Though, having them home in Gainesville meant they were able to point out old friends and family in the arena, which is a nice touch.)The only flaws to be found is if you have a widescreen, high definitiion TV, you will notice the video quality isn't quite as good as you might want (though it is still great.) If the concert had been shot on film instead of video, it might be better. Worse (IMHO), though, is the concert is literally letterboxed as opposed to anamorphic widescreen. If you know the difference, you know the problem.Overall, those are minor quibbles, and I highly recommend this DVD to Hazelnuts and even those with a mild interest. These guys are very talented all around and you won't be disappointed with it.If I could have given this DVD 4.8 stars, I would. But I just can't justify a fiver."
"A Life In The Day" ... A Must Have!
Dave Roberts | Charlotte, NC | 02/03/2004

"As a longtime Sister Hazel fan, or "Hazel-nut" if you will, I had purchased this DVD expecting a great show. A great show was what I got, and more! This is not only a perfect, high quality visually and sounding concert featuring 17+ 2 bonus songs, this is also one of the best band documentaries I have ever seen. The band takes their fans on a journey through their early days detailing their bands history, as well as commentary from the crew. I especially liked the not-so-flattering footage that included SH's guitarist Ryan Newell lost on the "Rock Boat" and more. This DVD is a very humorous day in the life of SH that proves the band's loyalty to it's fans including footage of the band sending pizza out to concert goers waiting in line, autograph sessions, having a tail-gate cook-out for fans and much more proving that Sister Hazel is not only a band consisting of very good friends that happen to be very talented musicians, but this DVD also shows that these guys know how important the fans are and are one of the few bands out there that make themselves accessable to their fans. This DVD is a must-have for all. Even if your are not a Hazel-nut yet, you will be after buying this one!

Stunning

"This is only one of the words that can describe this masterpiece. There are so many highlights to this DVD that it's impossible to name them all. It is essentially split into two parts with a full documentary of the band which is basically Sister Hazel on the road which includes detail on how they started, their home town, the Rock Boat and the efforts they go to look after their fans. The second part is a 17 track live concert filmed at the House of Blues in Orlando and this is truly spectacular. For a fan from the UK who may not get the opportunity to see this fantastic band live this is such a special DVD - all of the extra's are fantastic but when it comes down to basics it's about the music and this is a brilliant, honest band who write great lyrics and play great songs and this DVD shows that up to perfection."
