Graphically Exciting Tribute to Northern Soul artists of the

This is a quirky but interesting 70-minute compilation produced in the UK in 2004 and just now available in the US.

It seems that the folks in Northern England are having a revival of 1960s Soul Acts from the US that were mostly based in the Detroit area (Hence the name "Northern Soul".

What we have here are 20 artists talking briefly about their careers and then lip synching to their hit s (often, they had just a single release) in new "music videos". The videos are recent and the recordings they are "synching to" were made 35 years earlier.

You'll know a few of the biggies like Edwin Starr ("I Have Faith In You".. not the smash "Double-O Soul") and Brenda Holloway (Not "Every Little Bit Hurts" but "Reconsider") but many will be new to you. Still they are great songs. Most of the recordings used retain the distorted 45-RPM sound but that's the way they were originally produced.

These folks are in many cases "senior citizens" but it's great to see theese folks like Betty Lavette and Evie Sands are still performing on tours in Europe.

If this is your style of music.. and it is mine... 6this is a DVD worth Checking out!
