Movie Reviews

Worth getting as an adjunct only.
Benjamin Britton | Colorado, USA | 10/30/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This coupled with Chemistry for Dummies and a few other Chemistry adjucts are the best bet for success in Chemistry I.

The 3 video set covers most of 1st Semester College Chemistry, and scrapes the surface of 2nd semester.

All the videos are good except...

Cons: (1) Video 1 has about 5 equations for calculating Moles, molarity, etc that are WAY too complicated. There is a simple algebraic equation to solve for all of these problems that they barely touch on (and they don't tell you that it can be applied to the following problems), and then the go into their preferred method which is pretty complicated and time consuming, but could be solved easily and quickly with the prior equation.

(2) The format is geared toward younger students and keeping your attention, so there are frequent skips, outtakes, interruptions etc... for all Standard Deviants videos. It's like watching a middle-school tv show for college students. For me, this doesn't add to my learning, but it does provide some laughs occasionally.

Overall, worth having as an ADJUNCT... it covers the basics and doesn't give you the foundation for those topics that you'll get in class and from your book."
Failed attempts at humor really stick to your brain

"I've been ahead throughout my chem 125 class. Their is a lot of really good information in these videos. The humor is really lame, but that's one of the great things about them; it's this aspect that makes the concepts stick to your brain. You won't learn chemistry with them alone, but they are a great when watched while taking a chem class.

I realized that these videos were originally composed for vhs, but they could have easily added chapter menus when it was transferred to dvd format. The sound quality isn't all that great either."
Great DVD for anyone

"Forget all the negative comments they made about this DVD; this DVD set is well-organized and fun to watch. It has helped me develop interest in chemistry more than ever."
