Movie Reviews

Insightful, Entertaining, and Candid- Well Done!!

"i loved the film. i was impressed and honored to be a part of it. it definitely captured the quiet dignity of a man who's message screams for justice to all. joe has been a true inspiration to me, and no doubt to many others, whether he knows it or not. he taught me a huge amount about moral conviction, about dedication and passion, and about how in spite of my unconventional choices in my professional and personal life, and despite the attempts of many to judge me indecent or immoral for the path i chose- that i could hold my head up and show my children an example of honesty, morality, and logic in a society that often promotes greed, ignorance, and injustice under a hypocritical, manipulative veil of self-righteous judgement. In a nutshell, joe is all about 4 simple words which make up a profoundly ethical and admirable motto: LIVE AND LET LIVE. it warmed my heart to see this film bring to light the intelligence, compassion, and decency that joe displays on a consistent, daily basis through his selfless generosity, his uncelebrated and unpublicized contributions to the community, and his long-standing , deeply rooted relationships with friends and family. i loved that such a large portion of the film's focus was on showing the true family values of unconditional love, support, and loyalty that are obviously deeply rooted and ever-flourishing in joe's close circle of family and extended family. i thought it was really a classy touch to the film. and that goes for the whole range of people who were interviewed- myself included! that is, i liked the way the story is told (and the real essence of joe himself is portrayed) mainly through the perceptions of those he has affected so deeply throughout his lifetime. kudos to the producers and crew and associates and all who contributed for an excellent job, and I really meant it when i said it was an honor to be included. just as it has been an honor to know joe, and to have learned from him (among many other things) the difference between rightfully bucking the status quo... and actual misbehavior."
Great Documentary...

"I was very impressed and moved.

Shelby McIntyre did so well in presenting the paradoxes of a man who just tends to display them in a particularly vivid way! We're all complicated beings, and he seemed to really take a close and compassionate look at Joe. Fine production values, insightful family interviews, unvarnished footage.

"Although I picked this dvd up for its title (and it was worth it), this is a carefully crafted documentary about a wild character. Beautifully made. A great doc about a man that is more than just a Strip Club King."
