Ultimate Entertainment! The Kinnikuman Review
Del Keyes | In the middle of the Sunshine | 11/27/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Ultimate Muscle", next to 'Shaman King', is my favorite in a collection of edited animes from 4kids. Yes, it's edited and many purists hate that, but even so, this show has some snap-and-charm to look forward to. It has a mess of over-the-top wrestling action and 'unique'-looking wrestlers with some wacky Japanese humor on the side. It may not have a deep story, but with all the fighting and the funny this series continues to bring, watching "Ultimate Muscle" makes me feel good. Now people who didn't get a chance to see the first episodes of this good-time series, due to the FOX BOX's limited rerun policy, can now get a second chance on vol. 1 on DVD. Is it too much of a salvation for you or what?In vol.1 of this series, it began in Muscle planet where Kid Muscle, a.k.a Mantaro Kinnikuman a.k.a. mama's boy, runs away from his home planet so he won't be training to become a wrestler. Being in a cowardice position, using a spaceship, he flew to planet earth to hide. Later, he met Meat, his later-on coach, and later, his opponent, Addversarious. Running away as the Kid Muscle we viewers knew and laugh, he finds his inner strength and began battling against Addversarious. Eventually, little Kinnikuman has been discovered by the crew of the Muscle planet and was then taken away to Muscle training camp; moving on to vol. 2. As far as I know, there's not going to be much pinnacle points in this volume, but then again, I was one of many people who've hardly seen the first episodes either. The price is reasonably cheap to get three or four episodes on DVD. On the downside, certain web resources say this DVD would have the original Japanese track with English subtitles. Well, it's a lie; I checked, there isn't gonna be one. Big disappointment, but that doesn't really take this series down a notch IMO; in fact, I would've prefer the dubbed version anyway. For one thing, 4kids tries its best to make this show less forgetable than its Japanese counterpart, and it executes. The voice acting is well done. Marc Thompson, who voiced Kevin of Daria, does a fine job on his role as being the kooky, whiny wrester that is Kid Muscle; the others were good as well. And then there's the US names; they're actually better than the JP names. Come on, would you prefer 'Dik Dik van Dik' or 'Gazelle Man', his JP-named counterpart? If it wasn't for the name, DDvD wouldn't be so lovable and well-recognized. A dik dik, for people who are getting the wrong idea is a small antelope, says a lot; a gazelle doesn't say that much. Oh, and for a dose of incomprehension, there is Addversarious's Japanese name: Blood Killer...Blood Killer? I don't understand; what the heck does that even mean?!If you like wrestling, watch "Ultimate Muscle". If you like comedy, watch "Ultimate Muscle". Either way, you're going to love someone about it. Believe me, watchting it on DVD will make you hum the joyful 'Cow with Rice' song again and again."
The funniest animation ever made

"This is a definite keeper for any wrestling/animation fan, kid muscle, meat, terry kenien, dic dic van dic and wally tusket are the new muscle leaguers and have to defeat their common foes like the infamous dMp and Generation x, with hillarious outcomes and the funniest gags, good announcing and great animation, this volume is the best of its kind out there. 10/10."

"It is really funny! It is about the Mamtaro, the son of a Legendary wrestler. But when he accidently ends up in earth, a new legend is born."
