Movie Reviews

OK Anime/Yu Yu Hakusho Flick
L. Mintah | USA | 02/24/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"The animation and action in the Poltergeist Report is excellent. What is lacking is real emotion and humor. There are a couple of laughs, with Kuwabara as comic relief. Even George, Koenma's hapless demon flunky, only has a couple of warning lines. But the usual banter between Yusuke and Botan, or Yusuke and Genkai is non-existent. The characters of Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, Genkai, Koenma, and Kurama act like wooden actors from a Hong Kong martial arts '70's film with a formulaic plot of heroes bent on revenge. Botan is a helpless female the whole time.

The music is poor. Sound effects feel off. The story is about Yakumo, the king of the netherworld, who wants to take over both the spirit world and the human world. A little miko from the spiritual world with the world's biggest and most annoying cowlick alternately tries to help, but mostly gets in the way.

Oh, God, the English voices are HORRIBLE! The movie was released by a different company that released the Yu Yu Hakusho series. Not only are the voices different, the acting has no heart."
It's an okay movie.

"The problem is that nothing "Yu Yu Hakusho" should just be okay. This is the only Yu Yu Hakusho thing that I would give a rating to that is less than a four. It is more like a direct to video episode than a movie.

Like most people said, there is no humor, though the action is good. I didn't like the story a whole lot. Though people have said that this takes place between the Holy Beats part and the Rescue Yukina part, I wouldn't say that this is part of the actual storyline. About all of the Yu Yu Hakusho episodes were better than this. Sure, I was entertained by this and am glad that I did see it, but I would hope for alot more out of Yu Yu Hakusho."
YuYu movie rocks the party that rocks the body!

"This is a great yuyu flick... don't listen to other reviewers. Great action and cool characters. It is missing the humor element of the series but the action makes up for it. The dubbing made one mistake by calling kuwabara, kuwahara. I highly reccomend both this movie and the ENTIRE series. Famous quote from the movie: "GET AWAY FROM THEEEEERRREEE!!!" - Yusuke Urameshi"
