Movie Reviews

Good Death Metal DVD
sinisterfiend666 | the master of Horror | 02/20/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have bought a couple of these DVD's (the ones with various bands on them) and I must say this is probably one of the best I have heard of the bunch.
First off, if you do not like new hardcore metal, old hardcore metal, or death metal, then this review will not apply to you, so you might as well pass.
Next, the price! Dirt cheap DVD. This is an amazing price for the amount of music on this DVD
The problems:
As you see, I did not give it a 5 star rating, It is not perfect.
For starters, the six feet under video for `Dead and Buried' is censored (which is not really the fault of this DVD. The band actually released it that way, all other videos on here are uncensored on this DVD) what's annoying about it though is it is a very old form of censoring: where the song completely cuts out. Now days, most bands are making a noise, or substituting a word over the curse word (remix if you will), it sounds more professional. When you just stop the music, it sounds like the dvd is skips. Thank goodness there is only one spot it does this in.
Next, I was watching this and thinking how awesome it was, this video collection couldn't be more perfect! and then it came... Every time they release one of these stupid video collections theres always something, or some band that brigns down the whole thing. In this case it is 2 bands. Most bands on here are death metal (either you love them or hate them) you might not like some of the bands, but that's now what Im talking about, Im talking about
Brainstorm's - `Highs Without Lows' and Starwood's - `Subculture' videos. These aren't even death metal. They really kept this DVD from being a 5 star DVD. Brainstorm is progressive. Sounds reminds me of Nevermore (however they weren't that good) and the band Starwood sounds like 70's punk metal, and its terrible. These 2 videos just dont fit in. You nix these 2 videos and throw in a couple more cannibal corpse videos, or six feet under then you have a 5 star DVD.
Finally, a problem all these types of DVD's have: All bands are recorded differently, so sometimes when you go from one band to another the recordings volumes will be uneven, meaning you might find yourself fidgeting with the volume now and then, but this is only a minor complaint
Summary - some awesome videos on here: cannibal corpse, gorerotted, six feet under, amon amarth, crown, ancient, beyond the embrace, as I lay dying, unearth....etc
