Member Movie ReviewsJanice J. (dizzheart) Reviewed on 6/4/2011... I thought this was a very good modern noir film. I was particularly impressed at the detailed recreation of the era and how seamlessly historical footage was integrated into the movie. These characters are deep in murky waters indeed, and there is no one who emerges 100% admirable; the Americans are shown as corrupt, corruptible or pursuing their own agendas, and the Germans are shown as having done terrible things to survive. No one's pure, no one's idealistic; this is not Raymond Chandler noir. But it's a brilliant & memorable film. One advisory -- sordid sex and bad language are an integral part of the film; persons sensitive to such things might wish to avoid this movie. 1 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful.
Movie ReviewsBad Movie B. Proulx | 09/26/2009 (1 out of 5 stars) "I read the book, and wanted to see the movie...bad idea. The movie is nothing at all like the book, the story is completely different, and the movie is really boring. The book is great, and if you like to read, I suggest it. The Good German" Who is the good German? rosie | 01/30/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "I really don't want to give away more about this movie than what is expressed in the title I gave to this review. Beside that, all I have to say is the performances are truly stellar and not just the performances of stars. It is well written and truly in the form of a modern film noir. I only became acquainted with this movie because I came across it in a $1 discount bin and decided to give it a try. I was so impressed with this movie I bought more copies--at greater price and thought the money well spent--to send to friends, who in turn did the same. This movie should have had more exposure when it first came out, and has all the makings of receiving a "cult" following.
