"If the previous reviewer, S.Swygert, is a dance instructor then I advise you to stay away from them, as they obviously can't tell the difference between instruction to learn to be a professional dancer and instruction for exercise that is not intimidating, fun, and a great workout. I'll bet all of their clients are already skinny, wannabe-dancers under the age of 25 and there's not a single client who is there for fun, exercise and fitness.
This DVD is perfect for people looking for a fun way to get great exercise. The back-up dancers are obviously there to show you that even people who have not done this before can do it.
The moves are fun and the pace is good. The teaching style is also easy to follow - one step at a time, with lots of practice and an increasing build up to putting it all together. By the time you're finished, you've got your heart rate up and you're sweating, but you CAN actually do this - you won't feel like shutting it off after 5 minutes because you're not a trained dancer.
Great DVD - I hope she puts out more just like it!"
Friendly. approachable instructor & fun pace/routine

"Nekea Brown makes hip hop dancing easy to follow & the pace keeps you going w/o a lot of start/stops which kills most dance workout/instruction. No, she's not the most talented dancer compared with prof. tv dancers, but I love her enthusiasm, she can pop/lock a bit & she's 1,000x better then most aerobics watered down dance workouts. The less watered down dance routines dvds are a lot of slow teaching so you don't get your heart rate up.
She goes 1/2 speed on the really fast/complex moves, but really tries to stay at least full tempo & relies mostly on repetition for you to get it. I had only a tiny bit of trouble, but nothing a few viewings couldn't perfect. I never felt frustrated or lost.
The set seems like a studio w/good lighting & sound & good/decent music. The camera is mostly 2 angles & slides with the Nekea & 2 not so good backup dancers, & rarely zooms in.
The workout is 30 min including a 5 min warm-up & 5 min cool down stretching. There is a bonus 5 min abs workout that you do all on the floor with the usual crunches, leg raises & pilates moves.
