Movie Reviews

Touching and deep

"This film was excellent. The director allows the viewer to become comfortable with the characters, and then adds abstract information to complicate the plot. The viewer feels uncertain and confused at some points in the film, but that is the brilliance of this piece of work. This film keeps the viewer stimulated by using visual effects. Also there is a strong sense of motion. Sometimes it is difficult to understand what is suppose to be a dream, and what is actually reality. The film is basically centered around a brother and sister relationship with a few added complications. This relationship is very odd, but realistic and touching. The ending is very vague, but that is reality. The viewer is left with a deep feeling of some kind, it is very difficult to explain. This film is a pure representation of society, economy, and morality. The director puts the viewer face to face with the hardships of everyday. life."

"Nenette and Boni

A Character Study

Amos Lassen

Nenette and Boni are teenaged siblings who were not raised together because of their parents' divorce. The mother favored Boni but she has dies. Boni works as a pizza baker and gets quite a surprise when Nenette runs away from her boarding school and comes to him. The two have a serious problem to take care of.
The film is directed by Clair Denis and she tells us a story that she supposes that we already know about. We should know that Nenette and Boni have survived an ugly divorce. Nenette (Alice Houri) went to live with her father and Boni (Gregoire Colin) went to his mother. When Nenette appears she is seven months pregnant and does not want the baby. It is too late to abort and she is approaching motherhood with indifference. Boni is quite excited about it though and he takes good care of his sister. The two become something of a couple without the feelings of incest but because of need. Nenette's pregnancy gives his life focus and purpose. He has not had a love life and this is his substitute.
The film is full of emotion and the acting is excellent. It is a feel good film that will put a smile on your face and give you something to think about.
